An initiative by the Co-ordination Centre for Integrated Coastal Zone Management
|
|

Coastal tourism is historically linked to the beach and the sea. The elite tourism of times past has gradually evolved into mass tourism.
Parallel with this evolution the accommodation offer has increased and diversified, and with it a wide variety of typical "coastal attractions", ranging from miniature golf to theme parks.
Over the past few years a new dynamism has been generated that includes the modernization and adaptation of the basic facilities to meet the demands of modern tourism.
Within the scope of this wave of innovation a number of modern all-weather attractions have been designed as tourist alternatives (Seafront, Zwinpark, Vlindertuin, Train City, Sea Life Center, Earth Explorer, etc.).
Nevertheless, the tourist-recreational basic offer (beach, sea, ports, sea fronts, polders, etc.) remains the most important tourist draw of the coast.
