An initiative by the Co-ordination Centre for Integrated Coastal Zone Management

The Flanders Spatial Structure Plan regards the coastal zone as an urban network with two major cities (Oostende and Brugge) and a few smaller towns (Blankenberge and Knokke-Heist). Inland the urban network is surrounded by agricultural areas and green belts. International road and railroad infrastructure open up the coastal network. The sea ports of Oostende and Zeebrugge and the Oostende airport are seen as economic gateways.
