An initiative by the Co-ordination Centre for Integrated Coastal Zone Management

Most sandbanks (except the Coastal Banks) are covered with smaller surface structures, or so-called sand waves.
These waves have an average height of 2 to 4 meters, and become higher the closer they are to the top of the sandbank.
At the northern tip of the Flemish banks 8 meter high sand waves occur.
The surface structures on the sandbanks that lie closer to the coast are smaller.
